Our Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We have come again to the Holy Season of Christ’s Nativity and we celebrate the undeniable fact that He was born on earth, lived in this world for thirty three years, died a painful death while innocent of any wrong-doing, and conquered death by death by His Holy Resurrection. It is in this Christmas Season that we remember how He came to us so humble and loving, and this gives us meaning and hope in our lives, for we too are born for more than just a worldly materialistic life, but to have the Eternal dimensions of holiness and blessedness permeate every pore of our bodies, and every corner of our minds and hearts. Christ is born to bring us great gifts: the gifts of adoption as sons and daughters of the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. We are to be inheritors of His Kingdom that can know no end.
The Three Kings of old brought this Young Child gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh when they found Him after He was born in that cave in Bethlehem where the Church of the Nativity now stands. I have stood there and seen the place where they laid Him, and also the caves behind the church where so many skeletons of young children and their mothers were buried in the holocaust of the Holy Innocents killed by Herod in jealousy and fear. These things really happened, just as it was reported in the Holy Gospels, and serious modern archeology has proven this over and over again. The question before us is what shall we give Him in return? This requires more than a simple and superficial answer. This answer should set the course of each day of our life before us, for it is this relationship of God to Man, and more specifically of Our Lord and God and Saviour Jesus Christ to us, and us to Him, that is the most valuable thing in this world, for it makes today meaningful, and brings Eternity close. When we give Him our love, our attention, and our hearts, then He gives us purpose for our lives and a blessed way to live them. With Him, everything has meaning and worth. An open and loving heart is a gift worth giving, and we must try to do this consciously each day, for He is here, waiting at the door! Let us go in and worship Him in grace and truth. Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
This Nativity season we are making available again a wide range of beautiful spiritual things to enliven our spiritual life: luminous icons of Christ and His Holy Ones, devotional goods to deepen our spiritual practices, spiritual books to feed the inner heart and mind with the desire for holy things and holy people, and spiritual music to fill our ears with sounds that remind us of Heaven. We have also included our yearly Newletter about the Skete, Convent and Mission, and our yearly General Donation Appeal. Please take some time now to take in this spiritual food set before us in this Holy Season. May we eat it together here and now, and then in the Eternal Kingdom.
God bless you and keep you at Holy Nativity. Remember us in your prayers,
Your Brother in Christ,
Father Simeon, Abbot and Archimandrite
