Donation Appeal - Beginning of Great Lent 2010

Our Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are amazed when we think about it, that God is a real person Who lived on earth, experienced our humanity and our weakness, and suffered a painful and disgraceful death after abandonment, slander, beatings, prison, false witnesses, envy, hatred, jealousy, ungratefulness, betrayal, blasphemy, and dishonor.  And this happened to the dearest, most precious and innocent person that ever lived, Who loved us fiercely, and still loves us undimmed by His experience with mankind.   The Resurrection comes three days after He dies in love, but not before all these things come to pass, and the pain was real,  physically, psychologically, and spiritually.  It is a great wonder.

When we enter this special time of preparation for these great events that are not only in history but continuously are present and real at every moment because God is eternal and ever-present, we enter a time to deepen our faith through practice.  This practice is most needed to understand both what happened with clear understanding, and also to become tender and open to God Who loved us so well that He, through these actions and events, has made Heaven immediate and possible for us even now.  It is the personal touch that makes God real to us, and Christ was born to die and bring us through that death and resurrection into the Kingdom to live with Him forever.  Born in time, but alive for Eternity, Christ opens the gates of Paradise to us with the Good Thief.  Today or tonight we might be with Him in Paradise.

We will stand with Jesus Christ as He is present in these now living events during this holy Great Lenten Season - if we fast, pray, listen to the accounts of His life, and stand with Him at the foot of His Cross, and at the tomb at the Resurrection.   We should also be most generous in heart and hand, “for God loves a cheerful giver.”  What a perfect gift He gives to us in an outpouring of love: Eternal life, if we will have it.  May we remember to thank Him and wisely pray as was done so long ago, “Lord, remember me in Thy Kingdom!”

Here is a selection of spiritual gifts to help ourselves in this holy Great Lenten Season.  We look to these spiritual gifts as a means to increase our faith and love for Jesus Christ and the Kingdom that can never end, especially in the Holy Icons, and in spiritual books and devotional gifts.  May we use them well to make this holy season alive and meaningful to us, and prepare our hearts to cry out with pain at His Crucifixion, and with utmost joy at His Holy Resurrection.
