Recent Response to Our Last Appeal

Our Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

     Bless!  The Lord!

We are very touched and grateful for your generous response to our last donation request which was so warm, immediate, and helpful to encourage us to move forward here at St. Isaac’s Skete in both our monastic life of prayer and in our outreach of making and distributing reproductions of many of the great historic icons of the world.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Our immediate financial challenges a few weeks ago were very real and very great, and we were just able to meet them because of your generous help.  This newsletter and donation appeal is to thank you and to also tell you about our other immediate needs which we face today, as many bills due were just put off to pass the last challenge, and are overdue now.  We again are asking for your help to move forward to a secure and regular life without such challenging immediate needs.  Please help us with your prayers and more help to pay these bills.

Mercy, Love, and Thanksgiving

The Prophet and Psalmist King David included in his Psalms five times a wonderful phrase “O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endureth forever.”  This phrase ties our thanksgiving for God’s mercy shown to us as a theme that we need to remember and express every day.  King David  knew that mercy is a choice that God makes all the time, and that we need to affirm this gladly.  It is the gift of merciful love of God for us that defines Godly nature, and it is this that we are supposed to emulate and learn as much as we are able each day.

If mercy is a choice, and a Godly one, than what could better express the condition of love than our entering this choice until it becomes both second nature and yet more  conscious as we travel towards Heaven in our life?  God chooses us very consciously, and we need to choose Him and His icons in people with more and more awareness, and so fulfill the two great Commandments--to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul, and to love our neighbor as ourself.  Mercy is love in action, and to enter gratefully the sacred chamber of love, we will begin to pour out thanksgiving naturally, both inwardly and outwardly.

Our life here at St. Isaac’s Skete brings us into contact with many wonderful people, in both our monastic life of prayer, and in our outreach of providing beautiful icon reproductions and hand-painted icons to the Faithful.  This outreach has brought us into regular contact through letters and email with more than 15,000 people on a regular basis.  Many write back with their hopes and dreams, and also trials and challenges in life, in gladness or pain, thankfulness or sorrows.  You are all close to our hearts.  Thank you for including us in your life and your hearts.  That means a lot to us.  Please give now to let us still serve you and the Church at large.

Our Present Still Urgent Needs

We are still far behind, with unpaid bills due, and so we still need help as you are able to better continue this ministry of prayer and icon outreach as you have done in the past, and as you have given in the past.  We are asking you to give again now:  $10, $50, $100 or more would be a great Godsend.  Please pray for us and, if possible, send us some means now to continue and grow our life here and our icon service to the Church at large and to you.  Our sales are still extra slow at the end of this summer coming into Fall, and this is causing difficulties in just now making due day to day.  Give from the heart.  Let your mercy shine towards us, and may His mercy shine towards you.
